Let's talk turkey. Let's talk about what it means to be thankful and then we can answer the question "Are you really thankful?"
Webster's dictionary defines the word "thankful" as meaning grateful; impressed with a sense of kindness received, and ready to acknowledge it.
With a heart full of gratitude I would like to share some truths from God's Word whereby I believe we can show our gratitude to God for who He is in our lives and also for the many bountiful blessings He provides for us.
"O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods."
(Psalm 95:1-3)
"Enter into his grates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him and bless his name." (Psalm 100:4)
I believe we can show our gratitude to God this Thanksgiving Day by putting God first in our activities, by coming into his presence with thanksgiving and making a joyful noise unto him with psalms. Why not "have church" with your family and friends? If you are alone, the Holy Spirit and you are a pair and you can have a wonderful time coming into God's presence with thanksgiving and giving him praise. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
"Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Philippians 4:4-8)
"Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you. (I Peter 5:7)
"Now unto him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us,
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." (Eph. 3:20-21)
I believe we can show our gratitude to God this Thanksgiving Day by not worrying about anything. Instead of worrying let's put God's formula for peace in our hearts and minds to work. Why not spend some time in thankful prayer taking your concerns to the throne room of God and leaving them there? Our God is more than able to answer every request! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
"In every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (I Thessalonians 5:28)
"For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a for more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. "(II Cor. 4:17-18)
You may be saying, "But you don't understand how bad things are in my life right now, Rev. Sharyn, or you wouldn't be asking me to give thanks." My friend, that is the very time for sure to give thanks to God, right in the middle of your mess. Giving thanks helps us rid ourselves of oppression and causes our faith to rise in the worst of circumstances. This Thanksgiving Day no matter what your circumstances are I believe we can show our gratitude to God by giving thanks in Everything . . . "for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us."
"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;" (Eph. 5:19-20)
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:16-17)
"Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." (John 4:35)
I believe we can show our gratitude to God this Thanksgiving Day by spending time in God's Word and sharing it with others. Why not share the salvation message with a lost person this Thanksgiving? Why not share scriptures of encouragement with someone who is going through a tough time? Because of you they will have the opportunity to know Jesus, the "real reason" for being thankful! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Friend, in light of God's Word, are you thankful? Were you able to answer "yes"? We pray this Thanksgiving Day is the beginning of a new season in your life, a new beginning whereby you will walk with a newness of God's gratitude in your heart every moment of every day.
His Majesty loves you!
